FAQs

Instructions on adding, deleting, or changing user codes on Alarm.com. You can manage user codes directly from your web page.

Before making any user code/password changes, contact us at 952-942-5276. Changing user codes at the keypad or from your Alarm.com web page will not automatically change the password at the Central Station. If you delete a user at the keypad without informing EdinAlarm, that individual will still be able to cancel a false alarm at the Central Station.

Most systems installed by EdinAlarm support 229 user codes.

We recommend Alarm.com, which provides a host of options for monitoring system activity, including employee tracking, arming/disarming history, and remote arming capabilities.

Voice-over IP lines are not recommended for use with a security system. Our system may communicate using VoIP lines, but that communication is not as reliable as using traditional phone lines. We recommend installing Alarm.com for cellular backup if you use VoIP at your business.

Standard protocol is that once the Central Monitoring Station (CMS) has received an alarm signal, they will call the premises. If no one is reached, CMS will call one additional contact before dispatching the authorities. If no one answers, an incorrect password is given, or there is a confirmed emergency, CMS will dispatch the proper authorities. Once the authorities have been dispatched, CMS will attempt to reach the balance of your emergency contact list until someone has been notified of the situation. While this is our standard protocol, it can be adjusted according to your preferences.

If your system is beeping, press the (*) key to determine the problem. To silence the beeping for up to eight hours, disarm the system (even though the system may be off) by pressing 1 + CODE or DISARM + CODE. Now press the star (*) key twice.

The system beeps for a variety of reasons, including low battery, sensor failures, communication failure, power failures, and to indicate that an alarm recently occurred.

If you have a low system battery or a low battery on one of your sensors, contact us at 952-942-5276 to schedule service for you.

Intrusion

To ensure your business or facility is secured, door window and glass-break detectors are placed on the perimeter of your building, while motion detectors take care of detection within the interior.

If you want to limit access to critical areas of your facility, such as server rooms, we can secure these independently of one another and program the system to notify. These notifications will be received via text or email when one or more areas have been accessed and by whom.

EdinAlarm can design the system to notify you if someone arms/disarms it before or after hours. It will also remind you to set the alarm if it isn’t alarmed by a certain time.

Access Control

Directly from our web page, you are able to add, delete or change user codes instead of having to program them on the keypad. To add new users, first log-in to your account at alarm.com, then add the user to your address book. Finally, assign them a code user code under the security/user codes tab.

Before making any user code/password changes, contact us at 952-942-5276 because changing user codes at the keypad or from your alarm.com web page will not automatically change the password at the Central Station. If you delete a user at the keypad without informing EdinAlarm, that individual will still be able to cancel a false alarm at Central Station.

Surveillance

Alarm.com cameras give you the ability to view areas of your home in real-time from anywhere you have web access. You can see if the kids are playing in the back yard, the dog is still in the mudroom, or the deliveryman is at the door from any web-enabled device. These cameras can also send you a 20-second video clip immediately after the system goes into alarm, giving you a look at what’s happening.

Temperature Detection

Whether it’s hot or cold temps, you’ll never have to worry about that frozen pipes or fires with our temperature detectors. We recommend heat detectors in garages or warehouses and placing freeze sensor underneath your sinks. This will alert you when the temperature reaches 135°F and dips below 42°F allowing you enough time to correct the problem before major damage is done.

CO2 Detection

We recommend purchasing CO detectors from your local hardware or home store and installing them in accordance with their instructions.

Fire Detection

At minimum, we recommend a monitored EdinAlarm smoke detector on each level of the facility. Additionally, we advise having a heat detector in your garage and mechanical/furnace rooms. Our smoke detectors have built-in heat detectors designed to go into alarm if the temperature reaches 135°F. With smoke and heat detection, the system can notify firefighters early enough to prevent a fire.

EdinAlarm designs and installs systems that provide clear and accurate information during an emergency. Monitored smoke and heat detectors alert everyone and the Central Monitoring Station as soon as the system senses smoke. Beyond a siren, most EdinAlarm systems are equipped with a voice module, indicating the location of the fire by sensor name. For instance, if the second floor smoke detector goes into alarm, the system will tell you “Fire, Fire Second Floor Smoke!”
